My wife and I left for work Friday morning, taking the usual rout down Olympic Blvd, only to find it blocked off and surrounded by cops. Yellow tape and a helicopter announced a bad scene. "Someone must of died" I say to my pregnant wife, who is rubbing her belly and staring out the windshield to get a better look. "The only reason to tape off four blocks and redirect traffic, is if someone is dead and they are waiting for the coroner to show up", or so I thought.
The chopper continues to circle over head while the detour is as clogged as a middle-aged frycook's arteries. Frusration turns into chaos as the morning rush hour is made later and later for their last work day of the week. Half an hour turns over by the time we get past the four sectioned off blocks and leave the crime scene behind us as traffic picks up and life in the city returns to "normal".
Turns out undercover officers had been following two "serial robbers" for some time. When they decided to hold up a chef at Lawry's Prime Rib restaurant, the "Special Investigation" decided to intervene. Sending a helicopter and other patrol units after the "dangerous individuals" the incident came to a halt after six or seven shots were fired at the "takeover bandits". The two surrendered with one wounded. The blockade was waiting for the ambulance to show up and take the injured robber away.
First of all, why are cops allowed to go undercover? Should they not have to identify themselves before making an arrest, let alone firing shots at an alleged criminal? Yes the robbers were being chased by an LAPD chopper and marked vehicles, but the investigation began with officers in disguise. Officers creating the illusion that they are civilians.
Second, why are we paying for twenty officers and a helicopter to chase down two petty thief's who hold up rib joints. We're not talking about professionals here, they held up the chef for Christ's sake! Not only that, the two got away with no loot because they got spooked.
Third, seven shots and one bullet wound? Where did the other six stray bullets go? Is there no other way of taking down an "armed" robber in the middle of my neighborhood while my pregnant wife curls her hair in the bathroom?
What about the real criminals? The shyster corporate assholes who get rich of the sweat and blood of the lower class who can never make a profit because they make minimum wage. Where are the twenty officers then to "protect and serve"? They're chasing down that lower class citizen who resorts to banditry because he cant stand to slave his life away eight hours at a time with no pension an no hope for a decent existence let alone a pretty coffin when death comes knocking.
Crime doesn't pay and either does blue collar restaurant jobs. Get a real job you pigs and stop playing the good guy. All you are is a nazi in disguise, enforcing the regime of a country that was supposedly based on freedom.
